May 2010.

A lot has transpired since I wrote this introduction a couple of years ago.  Our family has grown in size, both in respect of the 2 legged members (our son now has a lovely partner and two children) and in connection with the 4-legged members as we are now the proud owners of two Kooikerhondjes.(Dolcevita came to us in May 2010).    I have learnt an awful lot about dogs,(especially Kooikerhondjes), different forms of  training, dog shows etc. etc. over the past couple of years and have become a reasonably active member of the Danish Kooiker Club.

WHO ARE WE ??

Bianca’s family consists of Jennifer (Mum) Bjarne (Dad) and Mark (Big Brother) .  Mark has his own flat in Copenhagen but visits us regularly; I think he comes to see Bianca more than us sometimes! He is definitely a very welcome figure in Bianca’s life, she loves him to bits.

Bjarne and I have reached the stage in our lives where we don’t work anymore so we are not exactly “spring chickens”.  We may be a bit wrinkly on the outside but we feel “young at heart” and Bianca definitely keeps us on our toes. She is a very active little lady who gives us immense joy and pleasure every single day.  Bianca makes sure we get plenty of fresh air and exercise , often to the neighbouring woods, or the nearby lake and the beach. We live in a terraced bungalow with a small garden on the outskirts of Copenhagen in Denmark. The reason why this homepage is initially written in English (Danish version soon to follow) is that I am British and although I have lived in Denmark for numerous years and am fluent in the Danish language my first language is still English.

I spend a lot of time activating Bianca in different ways, be it hiding somewhere in the house until she finds me, or teaching her circus tricks. We have attended obedience training classes since she was 10 weeks old, and she has passed her first Obedience Test.   We are now enrolled in a HTM class (Heel to Music) “dog dancing” which should be fun.  I also have plans to go to agility training with her when she is a little older, and I would like to try rally. We also enjoy entering Dog Shows, and this also gives us an opportunity of meeting up with other Kooiker owners.

We have had many dogs over the years  i.e.

Ø  Jack Russell

Ø  King Size Poodle

Ø  Hovawart

Ø  Labrador Retreiver

Ø  Kooikerhondje

Bianca is our second Kooikerhondje.  Our first Kooikerhondje Daisy died of kidney failure in June 2007 just 22 months old, a devastating experience.  Let me put your mind at rest, kidney failure is NOT a condition that the breed is prone to.

We have had a gap of about 7 years where we were not dog owners simply because we both had very demanding jobs and felt we did not have sufficient time and energy to give a puppy the best start in life.  It has always been my dream to breed dogs.  With this aim in mind I attended  Danish Kennel Club 2.day Breeders Course in September 2007, and am now a certified breeder.   I have also attended various seminars and read many books about dog behaviour etc.
